Poncho hears music in the stories he writes. While working on his novel, he found songs that fit particular scenes and began building a soundtrack for the reader. We love that invitation to experience a story through more than one art form.
For him, writing, radio and voice work share a purpose: making a connection with someone on the other side.
About Poncho.
Poncho is a writer, radio host and voiceover artist based in Mexico City. He has been writing lyrics, poems and short stories since he was thirteen. A lifelong love of music led him into radio.
His first novel, 5 Breaths to Freedom, was published in 2023. In 2026 he published it in his mother tongue as 5 Alientos de Libertad. He tells us the Spanish edition has been featured at Librerías Gandhi.
Finding the story.
Before he starts drafting, Poncho explores an idea until he understands what he wants to say at its core. Then come the structure, the characters and a story sketched in bullet points. Writing fills in the gaps.
He describes the process as slow, intense and rewarding. What does he hope it gives the reader?
